The language of making
A diary of making
Day 4
Didn’t have any ideas before today’s session. I eventually thought I would create some texture and also hand sew today. I decided to make some collaged pieces. Started cutting a piece of yellow satin then looked for some scraps to add. I laid them onto a linen napkin, which dictated a rough boundary. I ripped a piece of lace and silk from an old camisole top, it yielded easily without complaint like it accepted its fate.
Making these “small stories” is a fun exercise. The freedom of having this square space to fill with a new narrative is like having a canvas. Hand stitching brings engagement with hands, fingers, eyes, mind and material, more involvement in the stitch than sewing on a machine.
The challenge to create small areas of beauty in each piece. Even though I may never use them.
